Problems with HDMI and Windows 10 *

Image
https://www.avforums.com/threads/windows-loses-connection-with-onkyo-tx-sr393.2361024/ I have been using an HDMI solution for my Windows10 PC for a few years now. On the whole it works fine. I had a period when the connection was a bit buggy but that turned out to be an HDMI cable....works fine now after cable change. I do not use HDMI for video, as I find it sub standard. I use a 4K monitor, instead I connect via a Display port which in comparison to HDMI is far better. BTW what GPU do you have as that is another possible problem area. If you only need 5.1 you may be able to try an optical cable just to see if you have better stability. My GPU is AMD RX480 which is about 5 years old I guess and it is quite a good 4K GPU. Not used NVidia so cannot comment. Be interested to hear your comments.

Netgear WAC124 (AC2000) Great product for those dead zones

Image
Netgear WAC124 (AC2000) - Great product for those dead zones The Netgear WAC124 can be setup as a router or a Wireless Access point. If you have areas in the house where the WiFi signal is weak you may benefit by installing a wireless access point. The device comes well package and with a UK power supply and 1M of ethernet cable. You get an installation leaflet which is adequate but you can download the manual from the Netgear site. All the default connection information is on the label on the bottom of the device which you should change asap. Setting the WAC124 as a router was simple enough and there is a setup wizard to help. You will need to create a Netgear account (it is free).I bought this to use as a Wireless access point and I have set it up as that. The device comes setup as a router since firmware v1.0.4.2, mine had v1.0.4.4 and there is a newer version of firmware which the router can download itself to update. The Nighthawk app does not work when the WAC124 is setup as a WA...

Browsers stuttering when streaming football *

Image
I have been watching BT sport for many years using a PC to stream via Chrome or Edge. In the last month or so both browser have developed problems, the stream keeps stuttering and the event becomes unwatchable. I use Windows 10 (fully up to date with updates), also both browsers are latest versions.  Firefox offers a better watch, no stuttering. I have removed all extensions in Chrome and that made no change to the stuttering. I am on a 200mB download from VM so speed is not an issue, can stream 4K on Netflix with no issues. Any ideas what can be causing this issue. Decent PC build, specs can be found  here  The problem is hardware acceleration, turning it off fixes the issue.

Whenever you face a problem in your web browser try turning off hardware acceleration. BT Sport and iPlayer video stuttering when using Chrome or Microsoft Edge *

Image
BT Sport and iPlayer video stuttering when using Chrome or Microsoft Edge Windows 10 PC. I n the last week or so I have started having problems when watching BT sports using Chrome or Microsoft Edge. This method has worked fine for me for a few years now so something has changed. The stream seems to have a problem of some kind, keeps buffering, stuttering etc. My broadband speed is 200mB/s so no bandwidth problem. I have found a solution to this but would like a fix. If I use Firefox web browser the stream is rock solid and works fine without and stuttering. This seems to imply that Chrome or Edge are managing the stream differently. By the way I also stream using Sky Go and that works fine. After messing around with chrome, extensions and many other things it turns out that Hardware Video Acceleration was the culprit. Turning Hardware Acc off fixed the stuttering problem. You can turn off Vid Acc from the chrome settings menu, then the option is hidden in the system tab "Use H...
